Is the drinking water safe in Morocco?
Usually, the water is safe in Morocco, but we recommend using the bottled mineral water for drinking, brushing your teeth, or washing fruit.  This avoids any issues that might affect your holiday. The tap water is fine for all other uses.

What kind of clothing is appropriate for Women and Men?

Women visitors are not expected to cover their hair, arms, or legs. However, we suggest avoiding spaghetti straps, tight or revealing clothing and short skirts or shorts. Men may feel more comfortable in long pants as shorts are generally worn by young Moroccan men.

Activity Fes City Tour

You will be met at your accommodation by our local knowledgeable guide who will take you on an adventure through Fes (or Fez) the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual capital of Morocco.  Fes is primarily known for the Fes El Bali, or walled medina, an UNESCO site, with its medieval architecture, vibrant souks and old-world atmosphere.  We start outside the medina to see the royal palace gate, then walk through the Jewish quarter or “the mellah”, the first Jewish quarter built in the country.  Following that, you will enter the medina to experience the sensory stimulating souks - exotic spices, vibrant materials and beautiful metal works are just some of the sights you will experience.  As well as spending the morning wandering by the souks, you will visit sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Medrasa Bouanania, the Karaouine Mosque and the oldest university in the world (and built by a woman).  You will also visit the famous tanneries and the Najjarine Fountain.  After a Moroccan lunch, at a local restaurant in the heart of the medina, you will be driven to one of the fortresses to experience an amazing panoramic view of the entire medina. From there we will visit a pottery cooperative.  Time permitting, we will take a drive through modern Fes drive to experience a different atmosphere before returning you to your accommodation.

Duration:   8 - 9 hours

More about Fez (Fes)

Fez (Fes) is the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco.  It is known for its famous medina of which there are two parts.  One is Fes el-Bali, the site of the famous Qarawiyyin University and the Zawiya of Moulay Idris II, important religious and cultural sites.  The other is Fez el-Jdid, the site of the 195-acre Royal Palace.  Both sites are linked together and referred to as the Medina of Fes.  In 1981, UNESCO designated the Medina of Fes, a World Heritage site, and described it as "one of the most extensive and best conserved historic towns of the Arab-Muslim world".  Fes is the first site in Morocco to be granted this status. This enchanting labyrinth of alleyways remain much as they did centuries ago.  During its heyday, Fes attracted scholars and philosophers, mathematicians and lawyers, astronomers and theologians.   As a result, craftsmen built them houses and palaces.  Then kings endowed mosques and medrasas (religious schools).  And finally, merchants offered exotic wares from the silk roads and sub-Saharan trade routes. The Medina of Fes is maybe the world’s largest car-free urban area.  Here you will see only carts pulled along cobbled lanes by donkeys, horses or people.   This medina is a feast for all the senses.  The vibrant souks with their handcrafted works of art, the vendors hawking their wares and the incredible architectural details in the many buildings offer a never-ending display to the visitor.  As well, there is the Chouara Tannery, one of the most popular attractions in Fes. Although Fes lost its influence at the beginning of the 19th century, it remains a supremely self-confident city whose cultural and spiritual lineage enchants visitors.  Soak in the old-world atmosphere of this living museum on your visit.   Contact us and let Morocco Meta Adventures be your guide in Fes.
