More about Atlas Mountains

The mountain range in the Maghrib area of North Africa stretches around 2,500 km (1,600 mi) through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.  The mountain range has different names in each country, but in Morocco they are known as the Atlas Mountains.  They are subdivided into three ranges, the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas and they Anti-Atlas.  These mountains separate the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean from the large Sahara Desert.  The highest peak with an elevation of 4,167 meters (13,671 ft) is Toubkal, is in central Morocco south of Marrakech. The Atlas Mountains are primarily inhabited by the native Moroccan Berbers.  In the Berber language the words for 'mountain' are adrar and adras.  The mountains are also home to several animals and plants found mostly in Africa, but some are also found in Europe. The weather is cooler than other part of Morocco but has sunny summers, with an average temperature there is 25°C.  The Atlas Mountains are the meeting place of two different kinds of air masses—the humid and cold polar air masses that come from the north and the hot and dry tropical air masses that move up from the south.  Therefore, they create a geographic obstacle stopping humidity from reaching the southern areas and stopping the hot dry winds from the Sahara Desert.  As a result, the northern area is cooler and more fertile.  The Atlas Mountains give Morocco a beautiful and diverse contrast of landscapes throughout the country. You should not miss the opportunity to experience this fascinating area of Morocco.  With Morocco Meta Adventures you will see the best of the country.  Don’t hesitate to contact us.

More about Imlil Valley

Imlil is a small village in the high Atlas Mountains south of Marrakesh.  It is 1,800 meters above sea and a favourite stop for mountain trekkers as it is only a five-hour hike to the base of Jebel Toubkal.  In spring you won’t want to miss visiting these flowering High Atlas foothills.  But the stunning beauty of this area is worth a visit at any time.   Contact Morocco Meta Adventures to arrange a tour.

More about Marrakech

Marrakech or Marrakesh is the major economic center of central Morocco.  One of Morocco’s four Imperial Cities, it lies in the center of the fertile, irrigated Haouz Plain, south of the Tennsift River.  Marrakech, known as the Pearl of the South or the Red City is a r and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. The ancient section of the city, known as the medina, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.  This medina is the largest traditional market in Morocco.  With mazelike alleys thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry.  This densely packed medina, surrounded by packed clay ramparts with many gates, dates back to the Berber Empire. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret on the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque.  It is located just southwest of Jemaa el-Fna, the famous and best known square in Africa. Marrakech is worthy of visit as there so much to see and experience.  Let Morocco Meta Adventures be your guide, so you see the best of this city.  Don’t hesitate to contact us.

More about Ourika Valley

The Ourika Valley is in the High Atlas Mountains along the Ourika River.  Although it is located approximately 30 km from Marrakech, it is essentially populated by Berber people.  It is still considered a well-preserved valley, by its very nature and traditional mountain way of life.  Deep in the valley, the beautiful village, Setti-Fatma, is the last small town accessible by a paved route.  It is also the departure point for many excursions to the nearby mountains. The most popular and most easy hike is to the cascades.   With its stunning natural beauty, the Ourika Valley is a great place for a hike.   Add this destination to your itinerary with Morocco Meta Adventures.
