Day Trip To Eljadida

1. Departure from Casablanca

Your day begins at approximately 9:00 AM with pick-up from your hotel, riad, or another agreed location in Casablanca.

Meet your driver and depart south toward El Jadida in a comfortable, private, air-conditioned vehicle.

The drive takes you through the coastal plains of western Morocco, offering a pleasant change of scenery from the bustling streets and modern architecture of Casablanca.

Enjoy the journey and relax as you travel toward one of Morocco's most interesting historic coastal destinations.

2. Discover the Portuguese City of El Jadida

Upon arrival, begin exploring the historic Portuguese fortified city, the principal attraction of El Jadida.

Originally developed by the Portuguese in the early 16th century and formerly known as Mazagan, this remarkable settlement preserves an impressive collection of historic buildings, fortified walls, and narrow streets.

Walk through the old quarter and discover its distinctive architecture, which reflects centuries of cultural exchange between Europe and Morocco.

As you explore, appreciate the historic atmosphere of the medina and learn about the city's importance as a fortified Atlantic port.

3. Visit the Famous Portuguese Cistern

One of the most memorable highlights of your excursion is the Portuguese Cistern, a remarkable historic structure located within the fortified city.

Step inside this atmospheric underground space and admire its impressive stone columns, vaulted ceilings, and carefully designed architectural features.

The cistern is particularly famous for the reflections created by the shallow water on its floor, producing striking photographic effects beneath the vaulted roof.

Learn about the building's historical development and its role in the water infrastructure of the former Portuguese settlement.

Its unique atmosphere and architectural beauty make it one of El Jadida's most distinctive landmarks.

4. Explore the Historic Ramparts and Bastions

Continue your exploration along the fortified walls surrounding the Portuguese City.

These historic ramparts and defensive bastions were designed to protect the settlement and its important maritime position along the Atlantic coast.

As you walk along suitable sections of the fortifications, enjoy views of the ocean, the fishing harbor, and the surrounding historic buildings.

The ramparts also provide excellent opportunities for photography, particularly when the Atlantic light illuminates the old stone walls.

Your guide can explain the defensive role of the fortifications and their importance in the history of Mazagan.

5. Discover the Historic Streets and Local Architecture

Take time to wander through the quiet streets of the old Portuguese quarter, where historic architecture and everyday Moroccan life come together.

Discover traditional doorways, stone buildings, and small local shops while appreciating the distinctive character of this coastal town.

Depending on your interests and the available time, you may also visit Palais Andalous or other suitable cultural landmarks included in your agreed itinerary.

This part of the excursion offers an opportunity to appreciate El Jadida beyond its principal monuments and experience the atmosphere of its historic neighborhoods.

6. Enjoy a Traditional Moroccan Lunch by the Coast

After exploring the historic city, take a relaxing lunch break at a local restaurant.

El Jadida is known for its coastal setting and seafood, making it an excellent place to sample freshly prepared fish and other regional specialties.

You may also choose traditional Moroccan dishes such as tagines, salads, and grilled meals, depending on the restaurant's menu.

Enjoy the opportunity to relax, savor local flavors, and appreciate the city's welcoming seaside atmosphere.

Please note: Lunch and drinks are not included in the tour price unless expressly stated in your confirmed quotation.

7. Visit Deauville Beach and Enjoy the Atlantic Atmosphere

Depending on the weather, your preferences, and the available time, continue to Deauville Beach or another suitable coastal area.

Enjoy a short walk along the waterfront, admire the Atlantic Ocean, and take photographs of the coastline.

This stop offers a relaxing contrast to the historic sightseeing earlier in the day and allows you to appreciate El Jadida's appeal as a seaside destination.

The length of the visit will depend on the agreed schedule and any traffic or opening-hour considerations.

8. Return to Casablanca

In the afternoon, meet your driver at the agreed location and begin the return journey to Casablanca.

Relax during the drive back through the coastal countryside.

Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your accommodation or another previously agreed location, bringing your private day trip to a comfortable conclusion.

More about Casablanca

Casablanca, the port city on the Atlantic Ocean is the economic capital of Morocco. This s the largest and busiest city in the country and the commercial hub of western Morocco.  The Port of Casablanca is one of the largest artificial ports in the world.  The Hassan II Mosque, which stands partly over the ocean was completed in 1993.  It is one of the largest and most ornate mosques in the world.  It has a 210-meter minaret topped with lasers directed toward Mecca.  The city's handsome Moorish buildings, which meld French-colonial design and traditional Moroccan style, are best admired in the downtown area. Visitors who spend time in the Quartier Habous or Nouvelle Medina (the New Medina) built by the French in the 1930’s or in the beachside suburb of Ain Diab, are sure to get into the local swing of things.  This old pirate lair, now a modern city, is looking towards the future.  But it also embraces the European-flavored urban sophistication that has underpinned life here for the past century. This city is certainly worth a visit. With Morocco Meta Adventures you will see the best of the country.  Don’t hesitate to contact us.

More about Morocco

Morocco, in north Africa, is the only African country with coastal exposure to both the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the north.  Its land borders are Algeria to the east and Mauritanian to the southeast. Morocco has a history of extensive migration.  Many towns and cities were settled and developed by other cultures.  The region was first controlled by Carthage from an early date.  Later, it was the western most province of the Roman Empire.  Following the Arab conquest of the late 7th century, the area of North Africa came to be known as the Maghreb – which means West in Arabic.  After this conquest, most of the people accepted Islam as their religion. Morocco is a land of contrasts with magnificent and interesting cities and fascinating landscapes.  The largest city and major Atlantic Ocean port is Casablanca, an industrial and commercial center.  The beautiful capital of Rabat lies a short distance to the north on the Atlantic coast.  Other port cities include Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar, Agadir on the Atlantic and Al Hoceima on the Mediterranean.  Chefchaouen in the north is called “The Blue Pearl of Morocco”.  While Marrakech in the south is “The Magical Red City”.   But equally, Fes is said to have some of the finest souks, or open-air markets in all North Africa. There are the famous Atlas Mountains, the Dadès Gorges and the beautiful sand dunes of Erg Chebbi of the Sahara.    Although these areas showcase the contrasting geography of Morocco there are many other fascinations areas to discover.  The country is rapidly modernizing with a rising standard of living.  However, it retains much of its ancient architecture and even more of its traditional customs that attract Morrocan tours. Morocco is a country of peace and fertility - a land of the IMAZIGHEN or Berbers, an ethnic group indigenous to the Maghreb region of North Africa. Scenic and fertile, Morocco well merits the praise of its native son Ibn Battutah.  This medieval traveller wrote of Morocco - “It is the best of countries, for in it fruits are plentiful, and running water and nourishing food are never exhausted”.
